Seguin’s new pier will make visiting the island much easier in 2026 and FOSILS recognizes the this will result in a greater demand on the on-island facilities. In preparation for this, our strategic plan for 2026 is focusing on meeting the needs of our visitors. In addition, we must also preserve our historical structures. These two goals lead to a number of activities planned foe 2026.
Below are the projects FOSILS will be taking on next season;
Relocation/additional moorings associated with new pier
Grand opening event for the Seguin pier
Restoring the historic ox-trail that was used to haul coal up the island prior to the 1895 tramway
Installation of a second outhouse for our visitors
Expansion of the camping area
Selection of contractor to replace the Keeper’s House windows to their 1857 configuration
Begin restoration of the Boat House
Applying for grants to deal with our cove erosion
Installation of a water filtration system to make Seguin’s well water drinkable
Develop a preservation plan for Seguin’s historic tramway
Installation of a “CoveCam” to live-stream on our internet site
Increasing Seguin’s role in the areas of maritime education and conservation
The progress we have made to date would not have been possible without your support. Thank you and please plan on visiting your island in the summer of 2026.
