OUR TOWER PARAPET WAS CLOSED LAST SUMMER
BUT OUR VIEW WILL BE BACK FOR THE 2025 SEASON
Thank you to our contributors!! Our contractor’s parapet repair proposal was deemed not to be in keeping with National Historic preservation standards. But the good news is that in the process of design, a professional engineer has signed off on the rails being strong enough for visitors. So our parapet will be open in 2025. Your donations will be placed in a parapet “Preserve and Maintain” fund to be used for keeping the parapet open for years to come. As preservation and maintenance work is done, we will only be roping off one railing segment at a time allowing visitors 330 degree access to the outside view. We have one baluster to be replaced and we are looking for a 1850’s era 42″ baluster so if any of our followers have access to one, please contact our office. Again, thank you for your support.

OTHER 2024 Projects Completed
- Installed new composting toilets for keepers and guests.
- Replaced broken or failing windows in keepers’ and guests’ bathrooms.
- Repaired and painted guest quarters hall and bathroom.
- Painted and installed new window sash in the Engine House; painted all trim on Engine House.
- Maine Island Trails Association (MITA) crew and several FOSILS volunteers cleared thick brush under the tram and around the Boat House, as well as packing beach stone under the cove beach stairs where erosion had occurred.
- The Cove public outhouse was painted, also by MITA. Special thanks to Chris Wall at MITA for recruiting such a big crew this year!
- Repaired/replaced storm damaged roof shingles on Keepers’ House.
- StarLink satellite service for internet installed on Seguin Island.
- The On Island Committee (OIC) supported a Maine Public film crew visiting Seguin to gather footage/dialogue for a Maine lighthouses piece. Please Visit https://video.mainepublic.org/video/seguin-island-csg6n8.
