Past Keepers 2014 - Friends of Seguin Island Light Station

Right Whales are in the news with a large pod gathered off New Hampshire. FOSILS will be activating a StationKeeper system this spring as a means of reminding large vessels to slow their speed to 10 knots. At this speed the whales have a chance to move out of the way and the vessel also has maneuvering time to alter its course to avoid collision. Future upgrades to the system will allow for sightings to be reported and charted on vessels' chart plotters in real time. By adopting this system on Seguin (along with Halfway Rock Light Station), it is our goal is to protect these magnificent creatures with a fact based system based on real time data.
